Happiness is not there waiting for you in the future

Happiness is not there waiting for you in the future

Every time someone takes the Personal Happiness Index, I notice the same thing. Their eyes go straight to the lowest scores. What's missing. What to fix next.
I know that instinct well — I lived it for years.
But one of the things Bhutan taught me is that happiness isn't only about fixing what's out of balance. It's also about noticing what's already working. A relationship. Your health. The freedom to choose your time. Moments of beauty that became so familiar you stopped seeing them.
Maybe that's why we keep thinking happiness is somewhere ahead, tied to the next milestone — while parts of the life we wanted are already here.
Not about giving up ambition. Just... not postponing the gratitude.
Maybe happiness isn't something we arrive at.
Maybe it starts with seeing what's already here.
